everything's better with pancakes and the plague

i was out sick yesterday. i am also sick today, but i'm at work. it's magical.

as days of being sick go, yesterday was pretty okay. because i find it very difficult to sleep during the middle of the day, i got up at eight and made oatmeal and a pot of tea. i was in a pretty bad mood (when i'm sick you pretty much just do not want to get near me), but i painted my nails dark and read about half of the plague, which, oddly enough, cheered me up. and then i did a number on my messy room, which is something that's been bothering me for months. it's now a lot more organized, and i can actually visualize the final steps i need to take to get it into tip-top shape. (as opposed to staring at the pile of junk on my floor and thinking, Oh... dear.) unfortunately, i wore myself out a bit in the process, and by evening my energy had been completely sapped, and i think i was maybe running a fever. (i can't know for sure because everytime courtney gives me a thermometer, i lose it.)

oh well. at least my room's finally getting clean. and i feel better today... or at least, different. the afternoon is better than the morning. the morning is better than the part where i try to sleep.

for some reason, when debbie w. called me this weekend, i found myself answering my cell phone: "this is the batphone." which is why i obviously need this.

i am consistently amazed by how well my friends can follow my non-sequential conversational leaps and belabored metaphors. case in point, an excerpt from this chat i had about a month ago:

me: the other problem is that people actually get addicted to other people, and that adds another element of craziness to the whole pot.

Stir. Let simmer for a month and a half. Take the cover off, and duck when it attacks your face.

friend: well, i guess it's attacking my face.
but it seems somehow not quite right just to leave to cover on forevermore.
you know?

me: true.
mold.

friend: ?
oh...i got you.
the contents of the pot will develop emotional mold if you leave to cover on
?

me: yes!

i mean, that is just... above and beyond the call of duty.

alright, enough of this. i need to hurry up and get done with work so i can go to IHOP by myself.
