i just ate an entire bag of rice cakes in approximately a day and a half. because i'm just that kind of girl.
it was kind of sad on tuesday, when i finally picked up my dry cleaning after like eight months. they still had the clothes i didn't care much about, but they'd given away my nice dark blue dress from audrey's wedding, and my cashmere cardigan. (yes, they can do that, after six months.) i know they're just clothes, and it was my own negligence that lost them, but i still was a little bummed out. oh well. i hope whoever has them is wearing them often and looking fabulous.
wednesday was Ash Wednesday. as many of you know, i love lent. there is something about the lenten season that just makes sense to my soul... i don't want to just show up on easter, dancing and celebrating and wearing horrible pastel dresses. i want to do the work, y'know? i want to walk the road of sorrow and repentance that took place for a long time before the party. i don't want to cheat the process. i don't want to forget what i've been saved out of, in the excitement of being saved.
anyway. lent has always been a good experience for me. i'm looking forward to whatever it will hold this time.
(sometimes i think i miss liturgy an awful lot for someone who didn't grow up in it at all. the solidarity of the church calendar helps a little.)
wednesday was "coffee" with natalie, which really turned into another lunch at tasty harmony. we had a late, somber, social justicey evening at bridestone, and then the next morning i met my friend pam for coffee-and-writing-swap at 6:30 a.m. (we were supposed to meet at a coffee shop, but since i almost hit her with my car on the way there, we ended up meeting on the street first, and then proceeding to the coffee shop.) then i decided to go to shadowboxing class at the gym after work, which is always a good idea when you're recovering from a shoulder injury. (just kidding, kids! it is not a good idea at all.)
i decided that my shoulder, which in my personal opinion should have been better by now, has not been allowed to heal properly because i keep driving littletruck. the stickshiftiness of littletruck is not so much the problem, although it is a bit more difficult to shift than your average manual transmission. i think it's more the part where i don't have power steering, so basically i am moving the truck with my shoulders whenever i turn. a couple weeks ago, when it really hurt, the whole time i was driving littletruck, it went like this:
"la la la la la la la, it's such a nice day outside, la la la- oh, i need to turn here! oh oh, ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow! ow ow ow ow ow! ... whew. pretty day. ahhh, turning again, ow ow ow ow ow ow owwww..."
now there is considerably less shouting while driving, but it leads instead to dramatic wincing during classes at the gym when they ask me to use my right arm. some things i just can't do at all. so i'm trying not to drive the truck for the next few days, to see if that helps. i walked in to work today. it was about twenty degrees outside, which is a little cold but not terrible. but i guess it might snow later? so we'll see how this goes. it could get exciting.
although who am i kidding - if it snows, i'll just call courtney or stacie and get them to come pick me up. and then i'll go see a movie at the cheap theater, like y'do.
because it's friiiiday, glory be! tomorrow is haircuts and meetings and swimmings and a birthday dinner for my boss, and sunday is practically nothing, and i think i'm equally pleased with the prospects of both days.
just to be alive is a grand thing. i believe that.
