not appropriate for children

today my brother showed me letmegooglethatforyou.com. i think that's pretty funny.

neil gaiman won the newbery medal for the graveyard book! congratulations, mr. gaiman. that book is good, and i'm glad it won something important. i'm also glad that i get twitter updates from you, because these are the updates i got this morning, in chronological order:

neilhimself Every little pot of honey in this hotel room turns out to be orange marmalade. This is an I-need-honey-in-my-tea moment. They happen rarely.

neilhimself Mr Gaiman briefly ponders putting marmalade in tea, then realises he has lost his mind.

neilhimself About to drink second cup of tea without Marmalade this morning. Also, I just won the Newbury Medal for THE GRAVEYARD BOOK.

neilhimself Newbery, not Newbury. Also FUCK!!!! I won the FUCKING NEWBERY THIS IS SO FUCKING AWESOME. I thank you.

so that was nice. i always like to start off my day with some joyous swearing.

i took a photo of me wearing the aspiring purple scarf that i've been knitting, so that all of you lovely people could see the progress. unfortunately, my new phone has decided to hold any and all photos hostage, and will not respond to the appeals of USB cables, bluetooth, or multimedia texts. this is a common problem for me with phones. although i noticed that i do look a little alarmed in the scarf photo, so it's possible that my phone has taken it upon itself to alert the authorities. ("there's a woman in colorado being choked to death by her own scarf! she would call you herself, only her mouth is covered and she's too busy updating her blog to realise her danger!")

so if my phone ever gets over its concern for my well-being, i'll be sure to show you the photo. for now, you'll just have to trust me that it's shaping up to be something almost scarf-like in nature. i feel sort of proud.

gym membership option #one billion came up today. which is fine. it's great. i'm just at the point where i wish i had already made a decision, so i could just say, "This is my gym. I go to it. Deal with it, world." ah, well. i'm finding that becoming a grown-up often involves making decisions much more slowly than i would like. which is alright. it just takes some adjustment of priorities. my number one priority used to be speed and efficiency. now i find out that you're supposed to take into account things like finances, and time, and your health, and the future? WTF, adulthood.

there are a handful of people in my life who have collectively taught me to do almost everything i know how to do, and somehow katie d got signed up to be one of them. she is the person who finally successfully taught me how to knit, and she came over on saturday afternoon to try and teach me some guitar chords. i felt like i was making some progress (in that i had at least had something real to practice, rather than just plucking chords and trying to find something that sounded even a little bit pretty), until she left and i tried to tune the guitar myself. it is now so far out of tune that it is difficult, even for someone with my less-than-delicate ear, to pretend that the chords i am playing sound anything like music. so i guess i'm going to have to do something about that.

i wonder what that something will be? the anticipation is killing me.
